Fishing lodge in County MayoAn eighteenth-century stone lodge overlooking the Atlantic, reimagined as an elegant and welcoming retreat for family and friends.
Set on Ireland’s west coast, this historic fishing lodge enjoys far-reaching views across a sheltered bay and a landscape long associated with poets and artists. Working closely with the owners, interiors were designed to honour the architecture and the character of the house while bringing warmth, practicality and ease to everyday living.
Inspired by the Bloomsbury palette of The Hours, the scheme introduces soft, atmospheric colour throughout, including a tranquil smoky green study and a farmhouse kitchen painted in Farrow & Ball’s Bone and Blue Grey.
A shell chandelier was commissioned for the dining room, the design of which was inspired by a chandelier in the V&A. It was made with enormous care and precision by the late, and hugely talented, Diana Reynell, a British grotto designer and restorer. This used candles as opposed to being electrified, allowing the light to reflect in round mirrors incorporated into the stem of the chandelier.
An antique painted and gilt mirror was sourced for the drawing room, creating a striking contrast against the dark pink walls.
Bespoke ladder-back chairs with rush seats grace the breakfast room, providing a harmonious counterpoint to the soft blue-grey finish of the kitchen dresser.
