Townhouse in KensingtonAn elegant home designed to showcase a carefully curated collection of art
Created for a collector, this west London townhouse was designed with a restrained and thoughtful approach, allowing the paintings and drawings to take centre stage.
Carpets sourced for the elegant double drawing room established a cohesive palette, complemented by plain furniture fabrics and the client's own tapestry chairs. In the dining room, dark green polished plaster with bronze accents provides a textured, atmospheric backdrop for the art – particularly effective by candlelight. An antique French fruitwood table sits alongside Parisian chairs upholstered in gauffraged velvet.
The Provençal-style kitchen features textured worktops and green-painted cabinetry with a distressed cream finish, while a bespoke zinc-topped table and cane chairs create a relaxed, French bistro-inspired seating area by the window. The master bedroom offers a continental feel with upholstered walls and bed, accented by antique fruitwood tables and swing-arm lighting sourced from a Parisian manufacturer.
Subtle colours were used throughout to provide a backdrop that brings balance and cohesion to each room without competing with the collection itself.
